About Counseling

What is Counseling

So what is counseling anyway?  Counselor and a client try to find ways to overcome and resolve personal difficulties client has, and working toward positive changes.  Counselor can provide the effective skills for clients to be healthy mentally, emotionally and physically.  Counselor will never give answers or advice for clients.  Counselor knows that finding the answers is a client’s task, and is aware that guiding a client to the right direction to achieve their goals in life is a counselor’s job.

Benefits of counseling

How can I meet the right counselor?

There are many counselors out there.  You may think that it is very difficult to find the right counselor for yourself.  You may worry if you have to stay with a counselor whom you don’t feel connected with.  You may worry what if no counselor that match made in heaven for you.  Certainly there are many people find the right counselor for the first time they meet.  Sometimes people may need to try a few more different counselors until meeting the right one.  There will be the right one for you!  Trust me.  It is kind of like dating, don’t you think?  Or I oftentimes tell my clients that finding the right counselor is like going into the candy store, and trying to select the favorite candy.

You have no obligations to stay with a counselor whom you don’t feel connected or have rapport with.  You have right to choose your counselor.  You may want to try 3~4 sessions before you decide to find different counselor.

It is always important to be in mind that

  • Having a good feeling about a counselor?

  • Is counselor open minded?

  • Is counselor non-judgmental?

  • Can I trust this counselor?

  • Can this counselor understand what I am trying to say?

  • Is this counselor genuinely care about me, and kind?

  • Can I feel warm feeling from this counselor?

Being able to trust your counselor is very important when it comes to start counseling.  If no trust with a counselor, there is no way you can process the treatment effectively.  Trust your gut feeling and natural instinct when you choose your counselor.
